Every story changes depending on who’s telling it—and the same goes for songs.

In this two-week workshop, we’ll explore how point of view shapes the emotional depth, intimacy, and storytelling power of your lyrics. From first-person confessions to third-person narrative, we’ll examine how each perspective acts like a different “camera angle,” zooming in for raw detail or pulling back for a broader view.

Week 1 will focus on learning: we’ll break down examples of songs that use direct address, first, second, and third person perspectives, as well as those that shift POV mid-song. Through guided discussion and listening, you’ll gain tools to make intentional choices about the voice of your song. At the end of the session you’ll receive a creative prompt to apply these concepts in your own writing. You'll have one week to write a song.

Week 2 is all about sharing: we’ll gather to listen to the songs you've written, give and receive feedback, and reflect on how perspective shaped your approach.

This workshop is ideal for songwriters looking to grow their storytelling skills and push their creative boundaries.

🎁 Bonus!
When you purchase the workshop, you’ll get one free month of TOTB membership—including immediate access to our robust library of songwriting and production classes and our supportive Slack community.
